Before I got married I spent time taking care of myself. I read books, I writing in my journal, taking walks by myself, eating my favorite healthy snacks, have my daily cup of coffee and just being able to relax. Now as a wife and mother of 3, my idea of self care has become a nap, and a shower.

The other day I was thinking why did I stop caring for myself? The answer is simple because I thought it was selfish of me. Now as I’m typing this I realize that what I enjoy that keeps me healthy and sane are not selfish. It is a part of preserving my life for the betterment of my family.

I’ve realized that self care is a lifestyle and  a routine.  But in order to make it a lifestyle and get into the routine of taking care yourself,  you must figure out somethings.

Here are 5 questions to ask yourself:

  1. What brings me joy?

  2. What makes me feel pretty ?

  3. What makes me happy?

  4. What brings me peace?

  5. What do I enjoy doing?

For me I love to worship God. Turn on some good worship music and I’m going in! And it doesn’t matter where I am. I love to draw and color. But I also enjoy writing. Doesn’t matter what I’m writing about, give me a pen and paper and I will write until my hands are sore.  When I’m upset I will clean up everything. It’s relaxing to me. Helps me relieve the stress about whatever I’m going through. Let’s not forget a good cup of fresh brewed coffee. OMG! I tell people all the time all I need is Jesus, mascara and coffee.

Here are 5 simple things to do daily:

  1. Pray or mediate; clearing your mind and getting your spirit right aligns your whole day.

  2.  Get dressed with confidence.  A great, not flashy or over the top, outfit goes a long a way in how you feel about yourself.

  3.  Do something mentally productive i.e. read a book, learn a new word, watch a how to video of something you have been dreaming of doing.

  4. Encourage someone. There is someone who needs a word from you. Say it!

  5. Laugh and smile. Laughter is good for the soul.

These are all things that do not take a much effort but the benefits are massive.
