2018 is literally almost upon us… literally a day away. I know you have already proclaimed, declared and made the resolution “New Year, New Me”. Girl stop…. just because it’s a new a year doesn’t mean it will be a new you.

I know that sounds harsh. But think about this… if you know who you are, what you want in life, and ready for all the things you deserve in this life, then its just a new year and new opportunities to be fabulous.

There is no reason why every year you declare the same thing and nothing changes. You go to the gym a few times, you eat a few healthy meals, you save a few hundred dollars then fall off, you stop talking to “toxic” people, cut off relationships etc. And before you know it, you’re back to the same ol’ you from last year.

It’s time to get ready ya’ll! It’s time out for making all these resolutions and not sticking to them. I have made resolution after resolution. And I realized I didn’t make any changes because I felt forced and obligated. But once I got over myself. Got over being judged, the changes I wanted to make just happened.

Here are some questions to ask yourself:

1. Who am I?

2. Why do I need a new me?

3. What makes me want to change? Is it people, money, self image etc.

4. What is driving me?

5. Why am I not sticking to my resolution?

For me, I didn’t know who I was or what I wanted. Then I realized I didn’t need to change everything about me. I just need to change some habits and truly get rid of people. What made me want to change was me. I wasn’t happy with me and I had to get real with myself and God. And I wasn’t sticking to my resolution because it wasn’t what i truly wanted. One year I made the resolution that I would run every day.

Let me tell y’all how long that lasted! 3months! Yes 3 months! Now first of all, I hate running, I have horrible asthma and I’m out of shape. But what I learned is, I love a good walk with some great music. I will take a walk as often as I can especially when the weather is just right. Doesn’t matter where I walk. Im ok with walking. I will walk 5 miles and not even know it, until my music stops playing and I realize I’m far as hell away from home. But I love walking by myself! It’s a great time to pray, meditate and get my whole life together.

When I finally figured this out and saw that I was walking so often and I was enjoying it. I had already formed the habit of walking. And you have to let the things you want to happen, come to you naturally. You can make your mind up all you want but if your heart is not in it then change will not come. Once your heart is in it then you develop a thirst for it. A thirst for your goals, thirsty for your dreams, thirsty for everything you want. You start reading everything you can about this “it” you want. Going to every workshop, watching webinars etc. Like it gets real when your heart is in it.

Forming a habit takes repeating the same thing daily for 21 days. And 21 days to quit a habit. Training your mind takes any where from weeks to years. Getting your heart in it takes prayer, supplication and an earnest will to do it, but its natural for you.

So I know you are like how does all of this apply to fashion and style?

Well because this will not seem natural to you until after the habit is formed.

If you truly want a new you on the outside.

The first thing you must do is get up everyday determined to be fabulous, beautiful, stylish, etc

Then try these:

1. Make a vision board of the kind of clothes you want to wear, feel good words, the stores you want to shop at, people with remarkable style, etc.

2. Then start getting dressed everyday with effort, yes even on casual Fridays and Saturdays. You can still be stylish on casual Fridays at work and Saturdays doing nothing. And it doesn’t take much. Something I learned a long time ago was to get dressed with purpose and as if you are going to meet someone who can change your life.

3. Get rid of your normal. If you wear jeans and a t-shirt everyday. Start small by changing it up by putting on a cardigan, or blazer with a simple necklace and earrings. Simple right? Do this everyday.

4. Start with your basic looks that you already mastered and turn it up a notch. Add accessories. Yes a bold

necklace, some earrings, bracelets heck a broach even. They take an outfit a long way.

5. Then add a little make up. And if you don’t know how to do make up, I have 2 words for you…. YOUTUBE and Sephora. The ladies at Sephora will hook you up. They are professional make up artists. Or simply start wearing mascara and lip gloss, until you learn what color lipstick you like and how to put on eye shadow. I tell people all the time I wear mascara EVERYDAY! No exceptions. I wear it like I wear my wedding ring. It is second nature to put on mascara.

Once you start doing these thing that new you were looking for will emerge like a Phoenix. You will start feeling better about yourself, gain confidence in your self and style and yourself esteem will also build up.

As always, Be Chic, Be Fabulous,Be You!
