Let me give this disclaimer: I’m still dealing with depression and anxiety, but I’ve learned some tips along the way to cope with my symptoms better.

There are good days and days I want to lay in bed and cry. There are days that laundry gets completely washed, dried, folded and put away. Then there are times laundry 🧺 may only get washed and dried and that’s because I’ve run out of clean underwear.

Everyone journey through Depression is different. We’re not all going to feel the same, do the same or react the same. The same methods I use might not work for you and vice versa.

For me, my depression is a few things. Not wanting to comb my hair, not caring for myself, not showering. Not eating, sleeping as often as I can. It’s a lot of “nots” going on. It’s forgetfulness. It’s retreating from everyone including my husband. It’s yelling at my children because I’m fighting my depression and anxiety at the same time. It’s being frustrated with everything and everyone around me including me! However over the years I have found ways to help me get through the tough moments and enjoy the good ones.

Ways I have found to help outside of medication and therapy are:

Writing in my journal.

Coloring.

Having my daily cup of coffee.

Telling my husband when I need a break.

Sitting up under my husband when I need comfort.

Hugging my children.

Praying through each moment I feel I can’t make it to the next.

Before I was married and when I only had one kid, it was easy for me to stay in bed all day and get myself together. Now that I’m married and have 4 kids I have to finds ways to help me to still be a good mom and wife. If your dealing with depression and anxiety I strongly suggest getting a therapist and if needed medication. Then finding ways that help you get through your bad moments.
